Club Destin Owners.
As the spring break time frame comes to an end we are all
getting ready for a busy summer. I wanted to make each of you
aware of some community development that may be a bit of an
inconvenience to some of you, as well as to those of us that
live here.
Airport Road, to our immediate east-towards the Track
Recreational Center- is being widened. Once complete it will
be a 4 lane road with a turn lane entering onto westbound 98.
This construction has been on going for what seems like an
eternity and is rapidly approaching our area. This project is
expected to be completed by December of this year, but it is
"surprisingly" behind schedule, and several million dollars
over budget. I anticipate that the road work will be at its
peak as we enter into our busy summer season. This will cause
some degree of ingress and egress issues with our owners,
guests, staff, and vendors. Fortunately you will only have to
deal with it for a few days, we get to deal with it for the
rest of the year. A massive amount of our tax dollars are
being spent at a very rapid pace, for a very slow moving
project!!!
Speaking of projects and inconvenience............There is
another project on the horizon that I feel sure will meet with
mixed reviews. Each of you will recall the little Destin Diner
that has sat in front of our property for years. The Diner
struggled for many years and finally closed in August of 2007.
This site will soon be the home of a Denny's Restaurant. From
what I have seen it will not be a traditional Denny's but a
scaled down "prototype" version. I understand that the
demolition of the Diner will begin soon, followed by
construction, with a 90 day completion time frame.
Both of these projects will be on-going during our peak summer
months, brilliant planning on behalf of the highway
department, and will impact each of us to a degree. On the
upside, it shows that Destin continues to grow and be an
attractive place for business development contrary to the
economic slowdown elsewhere in the country. On the downside, I
am reminded of an old saying...............Always think
positive on matters in which you have no control.

As you may have heard by now the 2008 renovation project is
complete. Directly below this message is a video slideshow of

As of January 26, 2008 all
renovation projects are complete. We will soon post some new
photos of the atrium area. We look forward to seeing everyone
this season.

As we enter into 2008, the renovation
projects began on time and will soon be completed. The focus
of the 2008 renovation is the atrium area. The swimming pool
and spa are being re-plastered, and the tile and decking is
being replaced. The existing decking pool pavers have been
removed and new decorative, yet extremely functional, pavers
are now being installed. The coping around the pool, that was
formerly covered with 2 by 2 tiles is now wrapped in color
coordinated brick pavers. The stairs leading up to the spa,
and the decking around the spa, are also being redone. Upon
completion, new furniture will be placed throughout the atrium
resulting in an entirely new look and feel.
The exercise equipment in the fitness
room has also been replaced with new, state-of-the-art
cardiovascular work out equipment.
These are the two, most visible, projects
taking place for 2008. There are many projects going on behind
the scenes such as replacing HVAC units, painting, new
flooring in the movie room etc. Once the work in the atrium is
complete I will post some photographs on this site for you to
see.
We are off to a good start in 2008, the
renovation on time and under budget. Economists are predicting
gloom and doom for 2008, the political climate of the world
seems to deteriorate with each passing day, but in spite of it
all we keep moving forward and anticipate another good year!!!
